    Basically saying that in his life, there is absolutely no way for him to know that anything outside of our town is even real, and no reason to trust any of the people that would claim it was. He's 18 now.

    Sure, maybe it's a bad example because up until recently (and currently, unless you're american) you could just visit other places.

    But copy and paste that thought onto all of the shit that we can't visit- our history books, for example.

    American History is such a fucking mess that the closest thing to a compass for truth through any of it is to fullheartedly dive into "my white ancestors were as evil as possible" and hope that gets you as close to the "truth" as you can get.

    Outside of that, we learn a new version of history every other year, and then completely re-learn it when we get to college.

    Something like the alleged pedophilia of a super star we've only ever seen on the TV? There's absolutely no way we'll ever know.
