    Feel free to ignore this post. I'm ranting because it's 4 AM and I'm sad.
    You have no idea how sad it makes me that Mario is this vast, great franchise with dozens and dozens of titles, and dozens and dozens of worlds, and stories, and characters, and ways in which all of them could be used for so, so much more, just this endless melting pot of creativity and potential and bizarreness that comes from non-stop "throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks" approach to design, and that's without even getting into the spin-offs that became their own universes

    And so, so much of it is going to dust, to fucking ashes, because Nintendo will not touch it.

    I will never get to play around in that sandbox. Countless talented artists and writers with so much to offer will never get to play on that sandbox. And 90% of it is going to dust, because it belongs to Nintendo and for all the money the print they sure as hell turned letting franchises die and neglecting the ones they do bother keeping alive into a bloody art form. It's like every major franchise Nintendo has succeeds in SPITE of them, not because of them.

    I honestly think a big part of why I am struggling to become an artist myself is because of how crushing it was to realize that I will never get to even be near the prospect of using all these concepts and characters and worlds that I grew up so utterly immersed in, outside of fanfic, and the best I can do about it is make my own and hope they inspire others.
    And I know this is super fucking petty, but the fact that Illumination, the fucking Minions studio, has been granted the opportunity to make the Mario movie, fucks me sideways. It's like a sliver of hope dangled before my eyes and then it was ripped to pieces.
