26 Oct 2014 American hams raging over retail maximum sizes (self.fatpeoplehate) submitted 14 hours ago * by ravenbeg I keep seeing loads of things on the Internet about people complaining about retail stores not supplying ham sizes. For example the whole abercrombie stocking to US14 and a recent one on here about Brandy Melville only stocking up to a size US12. What is this like in your country? In the UK, pretty much every store... except plus sized stores (evans, etc.) only really stock up to a size 16, which is a US12 and the maximum size ive EVER SEEN in a store was a 22 which is a US18. How fucking big do the clothes get in the USA??? Entitled american fatties must be worse than the British ones. [Brandy Melville is a clothing brand that caused a bit of a fuss, because it was one of the VERY FEW that didn't use vanity sizes, and didn't come over M or L sizes. sensibly-sized people like that brand, and the hater's outrage was pretty hilarious.] [LuLuLemon is another one, no vanity sizing, limited sizes, and named just to be hard for Japanese people to pronounce.] ----- BlackGoldStandard Too _ big. I just ordered a shirt, a Nike shirt. My first love of sports was a little Midwestern team in America. They won the World Championship and then for the next 29 years they were awful. One of baseball's greatest players and our greatest player had retired, not so much as a playoff game. This year they shock the world by putting together a team that busts their ass and make one hell of a run back to World Series. All kinds of awesome gear out there. The one shirt I've been looking, I finally found it. You can't find anything. Online, in the stores, anywhere. It's a large and it's at least an XL. If they can't fit into all of these vanity sized shirts then, fuck them. Everything is too _ big. TL;DR Buy an awesome Royals shirt it's too _ big. --- Puddingpuss I'm an Australian size 8 in jeans (which according to ASOS sizing chart is an American 4) I've generally never had any issue finding clothing my size, occasionally certain brands I can fit a 6-7 (American 2) I have found that the pricier the jeans the more true to size. So I buy Wrangler jeans which generally retail at $100+ But if I try find my size in a shop like Target their $30 jeans will say 8 on the tag but are almost always too big. I'm fortunate that I can spend that kind of money so I feel bad for anyone who has limited price range. My friends and I do take advantage of the super sized kids clothes (which are always cheap and sometimes more fashionable thanks to the cool hipster parents dressing their kids in neutral tones now) whenever one of us finds an awesome top we'll call out "Thank god for fat kids!" It's a bit cruel (I do feel for obese children who don't have control over their diets thanks to lard beast parents) but I would hope that if those same parents over heard a bunch of women in their 20s mocking the oversized children's clothing than maybe they would stop and think "hmm maybe something is wrong with dressing my child in a dress that could fit a small bear" --- HerbalGerbal Too _ big. My sister used to love coming over from the UK because in the us ''she felt so normal!'' picking up _ sized 14's and 16's said it ''made her feel like she'd lost weight!''. My ex's aunt (back in the UK) lent me a nightie once that was a size 24, felt like I was wearing a tent. Brit fatties aren't as bad yet, it's only a matter of time before they start getting like that while crying that gregs has upped the price of a jumbo sausage roll. --- AllAbouThatTreble We have a store in the US called Kohls, they are EVERYWHERE! I cannot fit in even their size XS. I'm not a tiny girl, my measurements are 38-25-38 so this is utter bullshit. I should be wearing a medium or even large considering my bust and hips, I am a thick/curvy girl(in the true sense of the words) so by no means should I have to shop in the teenagers/juniors section. I'm a nearly 30 year old mother, shopping in the junior section is just completely embarrassing to me. --- fatguyinalittlesuit I bet you could find some sweet ninja turtles shirts --- AllAbouThatTreble I do have some sweeeeet tee shirts. My problem is business casual and otherwise dressy clothes. --- selfiecontrol Kohls is shit. Spend the extra money at nice stores. Every time I bought something from Kohls, it was overpriced and fell apart ridiculously fast. They try to get you with the Kohl's cash, but it's a scam. They don't support shitlords either, so that's the nail in the coffin. Fuck Kohl's. I'm just so mad about the money I spent there. Nothing ever lasted longer than a few months before falling apart. --- deeeznutzz if they don't like it... you know.. they could always lose weight --- HerbalGerbal Last time I was in AUS, the K-mart I went to had a huge section just for fatties, running up like a size 26, I can also fit a lot of the kids clothes in Australian target shops like /u/Puddingpuss mentioned in her comment. The fatties are slowly taking over the land down under. [odd thing about Australian fats, is for a while Australia had more overweight people proportionate to their population, than USA. Same with UK, IIRC. However, the *magnitude* of *how* overweight they were, was far, far under the biggest Amerifats.] --- fuckHAES You're right, the department stores definitely cater to the hams. --- CushyButterfield It drives me insane when all the fatties cry oppression and shaming because they can't find cute clothes in every store. I've never been able to easily find clothes that fit due to being insanely freaking tall. I'm also a UK size 16/18, even though I have a healthy BMI so I'm screwed both ways. But here's the thing - I don't feel persecuted, victimised or shamed. Just slightly inconvenienced. --- TerrorEyzs Shopping for pants as an American is wonderful for me. They always have my size in stock, at a 3-5, depending on the brand. But I've seen size 24 on the same rack. Added bonus: my stuff hangs in front of the fatty tents! [this seems to vary from region to region. thin americans have a better time in northern states, i feel *terrible*, awful for the poor, poor sensible folks in southern USA.] --- throwthehate I have to shop in the kids section because I'm so short and thin. I can't wait until my daughter gets to be about 8 or 9 years old, we can totally combine closets at that point. === rcv jan 2021
