Everyone made all their own stuff and shared it even if it was complete garbage, there was so much OC all over because there was no financial gain to be had from making shit on the internet so everyone just dumped it out for free and it inspired others to do the same. You got a window into both some genuinely funny and talented people as well as a lot of garbage made by kids/teens who had no idea what they were doing, but it all had personality behind it. Lots of people had their own personal pages where they shared their genuine interests and efforts and linked to others' pages, there was no homogenized social media where everyone is terrified to reveal what they actually like to others because now your whole family is staring at it and everyone else is a prude judging you because despite all of the warnings back in the day to NEVER share your name online, it became the norm to have your real identity attached to everything because it makes corporations money. And speaking of money, all of the good artists and talented creators ran behind paywalls because why would anyone ever make something good for free? So all potential creative inspiration from seeing others releasing things for free became lost and with no one going to individual websites anymore all forms of content creation died out. It doesn't help that _ all use their phones exclusively where you can't do anything creative at all and it limits them even harder into using the same few sites, because it's downright terrible to swap between tabs and apps on a phone. ===== rcvrd jan 2021
