GENERAL ADVICE Nov 18 2020 Wed People complain about content makers on various platforms, going downhill. Those content makers used to make good stuff, but today they suck. They went from being fun and lively, to empty and dull. Some of them went from being objective and full of diverse content, to being egotistical and shallow, only caring about "impressing others", and like comment subscribe. What stops the complainers from doing it themselves? I get complaining about stuff going from good to shit, but oh well. Do it yourself, do it better. A great thing said of a web video series that kicked off let's plays, "Game Life" (IIRC), was it was INSPIRINGLY AMATEURISH. It was so simple and basic in its presentation, people who saw it, immediately got the idea to do it themselves. But better! Because Game Life had a very crude setup. Today there's special equipment for recording oneself playing vidya. Save good stuff. People complain about good threads being taken down, good posts being taken out by bad mods. Save them. Screenshots are cumbersome and can be faked. Text files are every bit as authentic. You can't prove they're unedited, just grab them. They're light and convenient. Export files. I remember dial-up, I generally have had bad BAD internet connections even after dial-up. I remember how bad it was. Today I know the value of exporting appropriate file types and sizes. Minimize data any way you can. It makes communication with people of poor internet access, a breeze. Also no one will notice anything super tiny and benign. However, I'm in a position where I gotta be cheaper than cheap, instead of "can afford enough". I'm gonna have to cut major corners. Images: primary .png. then optimized Png or Gif or Jpeg. Crop and resize. Levels tool. Photoshop has the best export library, but some of us don't have access to Photoshop. Gimp's gonna have to do. I also really like KolourPaint, it can take really lightweight screencaps. If only I knew about it sooner. Audio: save primary as .ogg or .wav, export 32kbps .mp3. Make sure junk noises and long pauses are removed. Make it highly shareable, SFW, interesting. And most of all, never use a long word where a short word will do! Also webrings will have to come back. People complaining about stuff going downhill, well you don't need to spend hours making a video. You can make a quick webpage and get the idea across easily. /.
